F-19 Stealth Figther
Exactly 28 years ago I got my first original game for xmas: F-19 Stealth Fighter by #Microprose. I lost it a few years later during a chaotic move, however this week I managed to obtain a near-perfect copy on Ebay!
(I had to repost this thread because Twitter cut the thread into to parts for some reasons. Maybe because I used my MacBook last night.)
NP: "Swiv Title" by nightshade/xtc … (I love generating those spectrum-analyser-videos for mod files)
This copy was surprisingly cheap and in excellent condition. I'm also very delighted that the parcel arrived exactly on the 24th.
The game comes with a lot of stuff inside the box:
Maps.
Keyboard overlay.
German addendum to the (cross-platform) manual. Apparently the DOS release was before the public knew there was a stealth program...
Tips for pilots: KEIN HERUMLUNGERN!
Credits for the Amiga port.
F-19 is a flight simulator, so the manual is quite thick. I remember studying this thing on the bus to school for weeks.
It's very detailed...
... the developers even provide a list of publications for further reading on the subject.
Title screens.
Wow, I didn't notice this before. In order to add your pilot to the roaster (and therefore to start the game), you need to delete any of the deceased/retired pilots. This is quite bleak. I like it!
I'll post gameplay pics and videos at a later time. Right now the game doesn't run properly on my Amiga 1200: It first needs some tweaking.
I'm very happy to welcome this game back into my collection. I spent quite some time playing this flight simulator back in 1990 and I remember the game quite well, especially the rather long and difficult missions.
