Broken Amiga Disk
Follow up on that broken AmigaOS disk.
I contacted the reseller about a disk replacement and they suggested I should first try to re-format the disk and write the downloaded ADF-image on it. But that didn't work. The disk was defective and that's that.
A great opportunity to test-drive the Kryoflux I had ordered recently. kryoflux.com. It's a USB device that can low-level read and write floppy drives from various older computers.
This device is extremely expensive for commercial or institutional use (museums, archives, etc.), but fairly priced for people like me. Some good people really hate this and I have to agree: twitter.com/textfiles/stat…
So I hooked up the internal Amiga disk drive (Chinon FZ-354) to the Kryoflux and wrote the image to the damaged floppy disk.
The task finished successfully and the disk is now working perfectly. No more read errors and the disk checksum matches with the downloaded version. I wasn't expecting this result at all. #Kryoflux
