I've ordered a brand new (not new old stock) Amiga 1200 keyboard membrane from a person still producing them in the UK. I was camping a retro hardware trading website for weeks until a new batch finally got back in stock. sellmyretro.com/offer/details/…

In my last keyboard repair thread I tried to fix the main connector by scratching the contacts and adding some graphite. Keyboard 6/7

Sadly the connector wasn't reliable enough. Whenever I opened/bumped the Amiga (which happens a lot...) the Help-Del-Arrows trace went dead again and the cable end needed manual re-adjustments (and a power-cycle to test each attempt).

I read online that I could just cut off the end tip of ribbon cable to get fresh contacts, but I didn't want to risk destroying my only keyboard.

The packaging of the new membrane was surprisingly sturdy. Overall a high quality product.

So, let's open up the keyboard again... sigh

27 damn screws. I've opened up this keyboard 5 times so far and this will be the last time! Please.

Here's the old and new membrane next to each other. The original is at the top: Mitsumi Model number 56C774A (A1200-A). The new one is just called MEKALL.

I don't feel like enlarging that cutout for now. I'll first try to carefully push and squeeze the replacement membrane into the plastic housing and hope for the best.

Und Voila! Everything is back in place. The new connector fits extremely well. The new cable looks very robust.

Success! The keyboard finally works 100% perfectly. What a trip.
