Amiga 1200

I bought a used Amiga 1200 (Escom REV 1D4) on Ebay in very good condition. This machine will get upgraded in the next few weeks.

The seller already replaced all 26 years old electrolytic capacitors for me, so that's a big plus. If you're not familiar: Caps need to be replaced after some years because they start to leak acid which damages the mainboard. I'll do an Amiga 600 recap on my own in a month or two

Now, what the seller of the Amiga 1200 didn't mention was that the space bar was broken! They key was so busted, that it didn't even move. It wasn't a transportation issue, because that metal bar is supposed to be on the back, it can't move forward.

Here's the problem in detail: The metal bar is held in place by two plastic braces, which broke off at some point. Without them, the metal bar will move up and down and the space bar won't work unless you press it at the exact center. So this needs to get fixed.

Best solution would be to 3D print replacement braces, but I've never done that before, know little about modelling and I don't want to ask for help. So, let's see what I got lying around... <cue intro music>

A zip-tie mount could work, but it would need some trimming because it's too large to fit under the key.

Let's do this.

I cut off one side a bit, but it's still too large.

My 2nd attempt also failed, 1.52mm distance to the top of the space bar isn't good enough.

After some filing I managed to thin it down even more.

Perfect fit.

I'm very pleased with the result! So much space for activities.
